Cheryl
Glenn
Executive Director Coweta
Executive Director Cheryl Glenn is a Christian servant leader; married to Newnan native Charlie Glenn. They are both supporters of numerous non-profits and charities. She is the mom and bonus mom of 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Cheryl is a native New Yorker and holds degrees in Computer science and Psychology from Iona College.
Not a stranger to hard work and volunteerism; her service extends to several churches, schools, nonprofits and national organizations. In 2004, she was awarded The President’s (Bush) Volunteer Service Award. But, Cheryl always had a desire to enrich children to the exciting and memorable adventures that New York had to offer! Introducing youth to unique opportunities and experiences was as exciting for her as it was for them. To this day, she loves working “for” children, finding them great opportunities, resources, anything that would enhance their childhood and make them a better well-rounded person.
Realizing many children had no books of their own at home (only the yellow pages phonebook at that time) this lead Ms. Glenn to start and become the organizer and Chairperson for NYS Orange County “First Book”. First Book is a nationally recognized provider of free books for children. Under Cheryl’s leadership, her First Book chapter provided over 25,000 new books to children in need. She was on the foundling board establishing a public middle school for “The Boys Choir of Harlem”, NYC. She volunteered as a Financial Literacy Coach for The Urban League, and for Citibank’s Community Outreach Education Initiative teaching 4th graders, and coaching Katrina victims. An advocate for children’s education; Ms. Glenn served several years as President for New York’s Parent Association of The ABC Program (“A Better Chance”). Likewise, Cheryl and family have also sponsored several Newnan youths with small college scholarships.
Her 40-year professional career was spent in pharmaceutical services as a Narcotic Control Auditor, and as a Human Resources Generalist in Private Wealth Banking.
Ms. Glenn has been in Newnan Georgia since 2008. Bringing her New York zeal to enrich children, and be a positive resource in the lives of youth in the community; she started the Coweta chapter of Rare Pearls. She oversees all aspects of the chapter, primarily focusing on grants, fundraising, sponsorships and most business details.
As a participant in the 911 devastation, Cheryl truly values and appreciates life. She is always looking for positive memorable ways for children to enjoy life and live theirs to the fullest. Please contact Ms. Glenn with opportunities on: 845-549-9057 or email: cowetararepearls@yahoo.com
