What is Rare Pearls Mentoring and Leadership Program, Inc?

Our RARE PEARLS Mission…

“To empower, enrich and influence the lives of our young ladies as we provide a safe harbor forum to help them grow while learning respect for themselves and others.

Our Vision is focused on individual self-esteem, character, competence and integrity.

Tagline: Ready, Set, Grow!

Rare Pearls is a 501 C3 mentoring program that provides mentorship, encouragement, empowerment, and education to girls and women from age 10 to maturity. We started in Douglasville, GA under the leadership of Mrs. Judy McClendon-Redmond and have branched out to a chapter in Florida. We offer opportunities for community service and have already participated in such events as volunteering in the community during the Cultural Arts Council events, packaging meals for the Humanitarian Relief. We have exposed the young ladies to “Exploring Your Passion” series that helped young ladies explore what they are passionate about and help them find the tools to head in that direction.

“To Whom Much is Given……

This was the theme of the 2nd Annual Women’s Empowerment Luncheon. It was held at the Douglasville Conference Center on Saturday, July 23, 2016. The event sponsor was Another Creation by Lady J. The event was planned by Rare Pearls Board of Directors. It entailed an afternoon where women joined to share their own person stories of triumph over circumstances and life’s challenges to beat the odds and be victorious. The proceeds were to benefit the Rare Pearls Mentoring and Leadership Program, Inc.

The event had everything that one could ever imagine. We enjoyed a comedy skit from Darnell Players, a dance performed by the Benjamin Prep School Dancers, and presentations from our senior and junior Rare Pearls. We were thoroughly blessed by a mime dance by Mr. Mime “Himself” – Justin Epps who traveled from North Carolina to bless us with dance. Our Mistress of Ceremony was our very own Executive Board member Jackie Leathers. She carried us through an evening filled with entertainment, song, dance, food, and fellowship.

Not only was the ambiance, food, and guest list top notch, but the entertainment and presenters were on point as well. We were graced with such singers as Ms. Latrice Pace, of the Pace Sisters, who took some of the children and made them apart of her performance. It was really special to see and experience. We also heard the musical talents of Evangelist LaVette Sims, owner of Peaches, Sweetie Pies, who song her new single, "Abide In Me." We heard snippets from Mrs. Angela Deese’s, Crossroads Church, new book "Emotional Glory." We had the pleasure of hearing from Dr. Ramona Jackson-Jones and Ms. Roslyn Coar and this all led up to our keynote presenter, The Honorable, Judge Latisha Dear Jackson. We even had Senator Donzella James, District 35 in the house to support us.

Our support was shown throughout the afternoon with laughs and smiles and love that was shown for our girls. Our vendors provided the door prizes that were given out throughout the afternoon to lucky guests. We listened to an empowering speech by the First Ladies International mentoring group that spoke about “The Importance of Mentoring.” We definitely look forward to working with this organization in the future as we strive to branch our girls outside of Douglasville, GA and across the country with more opportunities for growth and development.

We were so blessed that we were also able to give back to the community during this event. We blessed an organization named OCC Reads/Corn Crib Ministries with a blessing of 43 decorated boxes packed with school supplies, snacks, toiletries, and other items for their afterschool and Bible study program. OCC Reads/Corn Crib Ministries are two organizations that provide afterschool reading on Tuesdays out of the Corn Crib community. On Thursdays, they offer Bible study and provide a hot meal to children that might not necessarily have the opportunity to have this type of fellowship on a daily basis.

The afternoon ended with a fashion show and dance party. As customary, we have fun with our Rare Pearls and in any event it will be elegant, but we will also make sure that everyone leaves satisfied and wanting more. This is what we delivered and look forward to more opportunities to share with the community and impart knowledge to our young ladies because they are Rare Pearls.

We would not be where we are today without the leadership and the direction that Mrs. Judy has taken to act on what God placed on her heart to do. She has worked tirelessly to ensure that the Rare Pearls have every opportunity to Get Ready, Set, and Grow! We would like to thank our past, present, and future sponsors, vendors, supporters, guests, prayer warriors, Executive Board and Advisory Board members, Rare Pearls mentors/mentees, businesses, families, and communities. Without each and every one of you, this could not have been possible. We look forward to growing in the community and continuing to champion the girls and families that this organization has the privilege to touch with each and everything you do. Like Mrs. Judy stated at the luncheon, “I want to introduce you to our V.I.P.’s. Look to your right and look to your left and say, hi I am a Very Important Person, it’s nice to meet you.”

All in all, everyone had a fantastic time sharing their thoughts and ideas for how we can grow as an organization. This is an annual event that Douglasville can look forward to attending. We also have other events that we conduct throughout the year. We also have an annual Fashion show that we will be providing more information about throughout the year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to participate in being a mentor, being a mentee, sponsorship, community service ideas, or donations.

The Board of Directors meets every month.
